Today is Friday, and you know what that means—IT’S ALL ABOUT FASHION! Those who know me know that I am ‘true-blue’ to my fave designers like Michael Kors and Carmen Marc Valvo. However, it’s always great to be introduced to some hot talent generating buzz on the runway like Audra Noyes. The Delaware native made waves both last year, and at this year’s Paris Fashion Week.
When looking at her creations, one can see the influence of both clean lines so often found in American couture and the feminine fluidity of Parisian designs. Therefore it’s no surprise that the Savannah College of Art and Design graduate cut her teeth in the world of French haute couture at Jeanne Lanvin and John Galliano in Paris, France after honing her skills at Ralph Lauren in NYC.
As The Zoe Report stated, Audra is one international designer that you need to know. Her looks are classic but with enough edge to satisfy both the uptown socialite and the downtown hipster. I’m really excited to see what she has in store for us in seasons to come. Plus, as a fellow native from the Delaware Valley tri-state area, I can’t help but feel a little pride as this area continues to produce talented artists in every facet of the creative field.
The first day of Fall is just a week away and some of us are already feeling the effects of the change in the air. However, although the temps are gradually decreasing on the thermometer, autumn continues to be a very popular time in which to exchange vows. While it is rather late to still be deliberating over wedding colors, if you are getting married this season and don’t want to include the typical seasonal shades, consider some of the fashion ‘It’ colors that are popular right now.
Two colors designated ‘of-the-moment’ by Pantone are Bright Cobalt and Misted Yellow. Whether by themselves, or as a beautiful and romantic combination, these colors are absolutely stunning for a fall wedding. Plus, the Misted Yellow still offers a hint of the standard fall colors like gold, bronze and copper. Yet, you don’t have to be committed to the full seasonal spectrum—especially if you pair it with the blue. Speaking of blue, Bright Cobalt can add just the right amount of dramatic flair to a day wedding, or the perfect accent to a formal, evening wedding. It’s a jewel-toned hue that is both ornate and classic.
Even if you’re not quite thrilled with these particular colors, take a look at some of the other hot shades of the season that may be the inspiration for your wedding’s theme. You’ll be amazed at the cornucopia of ideas awaiting you.
Hope your week was a good one, and your upcoming weekend even better.
As an event designer, I am always on the look-out for the latest trends, whether in the industry or elsewhere. It also helps to be in tune with other trendspotters as well, and People Style Watch Magazine never disappoints.
In their current fall issue, the What’s In What’s Out regular article talks about DIY ‘peek a boo’ cakes gaining momentum in popularity. These cakes offer a surprise inside for the eater like candy, frosting, or an unexpected silhouette like a heart or flower.
Of course, we know that both amateur bakers and professional cake designers have used this technique in the past. However, as the saying goes, ‘Everything old is new again.’ Yet, it is a great addition to a bridal shower cake or wedding cake. Plus, it can add a personal touch to the cake that reflects the personality of the bride and/or couple!
Hope your Tuesday is a terrific one. Loving this time of year as summer slowly (but surely) transitions into fall—I get to pull from all sections of my closet. A light cardigan here, or a cashmere t-shirt there. Speaking of closets, it can be pretty nerve-wracking when trying to plan an outfit to wear to a wedding. Although the height of wedding season has passed, the popularity of autumn and winter weddings is steadily climbing. Therefore, if you find yourself attending a few nuptials between now and next spring, here are a few tips to remember:
First, dress for the season. Although you looked really hot in that pretty chiffon sheath at your friend’s June wedding, you might want to consider another option for your other friend’s wedding in October. The fall season usually ushers in the popularity of dark, rich, vibrant colors in jewel or earth tones coupled with heavier fabrics.
This takes me to the second tip: Wear an outfit appropriate for the time of day in which the wedding will take place. For example, if you’re attending an ‘after 5’ wedding, the attire will most likely require black-tie or evening wear. Therefore, you don’t want to show up in a tan shirtdress made of jersey instead of an attractive cocktail dress in a ‘go-to’ color like black, navy blue, or one of fall’s ‘It’ colors, plum.
My final tip has to be this: Above all else, make sure the outfit has the perfect F.I.T. – finesse, inference, and taste. Whether you want to wow the crowd, or just your date for the wedding, you must make sure that your outfit speaks (positive) volumes about who you are. If you have to ask if you’re showing too much cleavage, you probably are. If you tend to be more conservative, then you might not be comfortable showing lots of skin. Ultimately, you want to be remembered as a wedding guest who dazzled—without stealing the bride’s shine.
The weekend is finally here, and I, like Pharrell, am ‘Happy!’ Life has been keeping me quite busy, but no too busy to keep me from taking a peek at all of the wonderful runway designs that Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is showcasing right now. Even though we are preparing our closets for a long winter’s style, September also brings us a preview of what we’ll be rocking (or not) during the next spring/summer season.
So far, MBFW has displayed an eclectic mix of soft pastels, asymmetric lines and floral prints. Celebrity fave, Zac Posen’s 2015 collection offers a funky mix of street and feminine silhouettes. Whimsical, yet clean designs can be found in Whitney Pozgay’s WHIT collection like her 60′s-inspired, sleeveless and multi-colored sheath dress. Finally, Tadashi Shoji, another designer who’s a favorite among actresses in Hollywood, utilizes a combination of paisley and damask prints on many of his Spring/Summer 2015 frocks.
Needless to say, I can’t wait to see what else is in store since there are several more days left of Fashion Week. Plus, many of my fave designers have yet to show off their creations. From what has been shown thus far, I’m already counting down the days to March 20, 2015!
