Hello Peeps!
We are in the midst of Mother’s Day week (where is the time going and why is it in such a hurry?!) and, if you are in need of an idea to celebrate the day, then look no further.
It’s easy to choose a theme when planning birthday or anniversary parties. However, why not plan a Mother’s Day celebration using the woman-of-the-hour’s favorite subject or activity as inspiration for the theme? For example, is she a fan of film noir? Does she enjoy reading books set in medieval times like Robin Hood or King Arthur’s Court? Or, does she swoon over fashion and pop-culture of the 1950’s?
You can plan a film noir movie marathon/dinner and have all of your guests (including the guest of honor) dress up in 1940’s-inspired outfits, and even include a murder mystery game among the guests. If she is a fan of sword fighting and ladies-in-waiting, prepare a medieval-style meal fit for a ki—ahem!—queen, and maybe have some of your guests act out scenes from her favorite stories.
Finally, what could be more fun than donning a poodle skirt, bobby socks and saddle shoes? A throwback to a 1950’s sock hop will definitely put a smile on the face of the ‘mother’ you are celebrating. If she is a fan of this era, you can really go all-out in decor, cuisine and music.
It’s easy to fall into tradition with flowers, candy and a meal. Of course, that’s absolutely fine because it’s truly the thought that counts. However, if you want to jazz things up a bit for your mom (or any mother in your life), a celebration inspired by her most favorite things will definitely leave her with a smile on her face and excited for what you may have in store for her next year!
Best,
