This week, I’ve been celebrating the countdown to spring, and the celebration continues today. However, since it is ‘Throwback Thursday’, I thought I’d use the opportunity to honor ‘America’s First Sweetheart,’ Shirley Temple-Black and her famous song, On TheGood Ship Lollipop as inpsiration for today’s blog.
When you think of Shirley Temple, you can’t help but think of sugary-sweet goodness, effortless fun and timeless innocence. These three themes can be used as a great starting point to plan your springtime (or summertime) soiree; be it a bridal shower, baby shower, birthday party or Mother’s Day celebration. Candies in all forms of bright colors and textures along with assorted cakes and pastries, and maybe even ice cream can serve as an ooey-gooey backdrop to your event’s main menu. Of course, if the event is catered more to an adult crowd, you can make sure to have a savory, yet sophisticated offering (example: tuna pate, empanadas made with fig, brie and prosciutto, and roasted potato salad).
As always, remember to let your imagination have free reign!
So, as the warmer months gradually come upon the horizon, and you begin to make plans to spend fun-in-the-sun time with family and friends, let Ms. Temple-Black’s legacy inspire you to always remain young-at-heart!
In keeping with the theme of celebrating the upcoming spring season, one of the most endearing fairytales make for our Wedding Wednesday inspiration. Although there have been several versions of Alice In Wonderland over the years, what remains constant is the enchanting whimsy for which the story is famous.
However, what makes it such a great inspiration is that there are so many options a bride can take if she wants to include elements of the story in her wedding. Whether it’s an elegant spin on the garden tea party for a reception back-drop, or adding a funky Mad Hatter twist to the bridal gown (or entire bridal party look), an AIW theme leaves the door wide open for the bride’s (and groom’s) imagination to run wild. Just remember that the right combination of sophistication, fun and fantasy can have guests think they have truly fallen down the rabbit hole.
Hope your Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend was a blast! Now that it’s over, you know what that means—time to get ready for Easter! Yes, the winter holidays are over, and the countdown to Easter has officially begun. With less than a month before the arrival of the first official day of Spring, we have no time to waste before Mr. Peter Cottontail comes knocking at the door.
Getting ready for the spring season as well as Easter is almost like a ’1-2 punch.’ We welcome in the ‘season of new beginnings’ by replacing linens, adding fresh coats of paint, or starting on a lawn (or backyard) makeover among the many other spring cleaning projects. As part of this ritual, we also get ready for the seasonal holidays and celebrations including Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and the many graduation parties and bridal showers that we may be hosting.
So, don’t wait to get started on your pre-season preparation. If you know that you will be hosting friends and family over the Easter holiday, start planning your menu now. Ask those who will be in attendance to dust off their favorite recipe to include in the meal. Want to do some re-decorating for the spring/summer months? Start looking through various magazines or websites for some inspiration like House Beautiful.
You may think that you have plenty of time, but don’t look now because retailers are already displaying beach wear. Uuuhhm, is that a good thing after all those Christmas cookies?!

Happy Valentine’s Day Peeps!
Hope you are spending the day with the one you love. In the meantime, lets talk about one of the things I love – Mercedes Benz’ bi-annual celebration of next season’s fashion trends. Yesterday concluded MB’s Fall 2014 Fashion Week. As always, the designers hit it out of the park!
Both rich and muted tones were represented on the runway. Some designers played up bohemian-chic, while others went full-out glam. Of course, the usual fall trends were seen including leather, fur, and texture upon texture. Influences from the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s were in abundance as well. Of course, I can’t talk about Fashion Week without giving a big shout-out to my personal fave designer, Michael Kors whose collection was a girl’s ‘prêt-à-porter’ dream.
I know that many of us are ready to chuck the boots and slide into some sandals, and the last thing you want to talk about is next fall. But, remember that appreciating style is never out of season!

Happy Friday All:
By the way, this is no regular Friday as the second day of New York Fashion Week is underway. Every year at this time, designers converge on Manhattan to showcase their wonderful creations for the upcoming fall season.
So far, the runway looks from BCBG Max Azria, Tome and Richard Chai are very rich, very detailed and very sophisticated—which is to be expected for fall. As the shows continue, I am sure that we will see a host of trends that will definitely not disappoint.
Although I am ready to rock some sandals, my love for fall fashion will never go out of style!

Well, it’s Wedding Wednesday folks, and we can all agree that Valentine’s Day is definitely a great day to exchange your wedding vows!
Just think of all of the wonderful ideas you can use to celebrate your love and invite your guests to celebrate theirs along with you. Let’s start with a romantic pre-ceremony cocktail hour consisting of strawberry and brie on top of crostinis, smoked oysters, and mini lobster truffle mac & cheese served with an Axis Kiss. During the ceremony, you can have individuals in your wedding party read some love sonnets. At the reception, ask a few couples to stand up and tell a romantic tale about how they met, or how he proposed.
Of course, Valentine’s Day provides a wealth of decorating options consisting of red, white and pink. From your bridal gown to the wedding cake, you can create a starry-eyed atmosphere that will look like it came straight out of a Disney fairytale. Roses, ribbons, tulle, candles and sparklers are just some of the items you can use to design a wedding that oozes with l’amour.
So, if you and your sweetie have not yet set a date next year, consider Valentine’s Day as an option. What better day to pledge your eternal love to each other than on the day when love is universally celebrated!
It’s February, and this month is loaded with pop-cultural pastimes to fill your calendar. It kicked off with the Superbowl (what was that?!!), followed by the start of New York Fashion week (yay!!), and with Valentine’s Day not far behind (awww!!). Of course, what better way to follow up such an exciting month than to celebrate Hollywood’s biggest night on March 2nd.
Even though we all can’t be on the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre on Oscar night, you can still host your own Academy Awards party to celebrate your favorite films or actors. Whether popcorn casual or high-fashion formal, there is no limit to what type of party you can host. One way to get your guests hyped for the event is to hand out homemade ballots before the party and have a prize for the one(s) who made the most correct predictions about the winners. Have a long driveway? Place a red carpet out front and have your guests wear their finest as you take pictures upon their arrival. They (and your neighbors) will get a kick out of that! Let’s not forget about the food. You can serve the standard movie fare like nachos, hot dogs and candy, or more sumptuous items like baby lamb chops, mini beef wellingtons and baby lobster quiches.
Celebrating Oscar night is a fun way to dress up and enjoy great company, great food and Hollywood extravagance. So, get your acceptance speech ready because the perfectly planned party will have your guests giving you an award for your hosting prowess!
