{Wedding Wednesday} Real Wedding~ Andrea + Kelvin

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

We love featuring the fabulous love stories of our wonderful couples.  This past summer, TCE had the awesome opportunity to plan the wedding of Andrea + Kelvin at the Deerfield Golf and Tennis Club in Newark, DE.   The planning process required twelve months of long distance communication, and only two in-person meetings due to the couple residing in Illinois.  However, the event went off without a glitch, thus fulfilling their dream of a perfect wedding day!

In their own words, here’s the story of how they met on the road to matrimony…

The summer before my final year in college I did an internship.  During that internship I met Kelvin’s college roomate.   A group of us from the internship would hang out and  Reginald (his roommate) and I were friends by the end of the internship.   I was talking to Reginald on the the phone one day and thought it would be good to meet some nice guys.  So he connected me with Kelvin.  We would talk on the phone.  At the time I lived in Iowa and he lived in Illinois.  We decided to just be  friends since it was best for the both of us during the time.  When we were friends we always had good conversations ranging from serious to light. Whenever we did hang out, we had a lot of fun. Finally, there was a moment where we both realized that we were great friends and that there might be something more to it.  So, we started to try to be more than friends.  We would see each other every month.  I would come up to Peoria one month and he would come down to Iowa another.  During the summer of 2010 I knew there was a point that we could no longer live in separate states and move forward with our relationship.  Also, based on our conversations, I knew that he cared about me deeply, and saw me as someone who would be in his life.  I was ready for a change of scenery so I decided to move. I finally found something in May 2011 and moved to Illinois.

In order to discuss the proposal I have to mention events leading up to it.  During the week of the proposal I had suspected it would happen, I just didn’t know when.  I remember one night he took me to this Itailian restaurant.  We were eating dinner, and he began to tell me a story about this girl he was sitting next to on the plane  who was drawing a picture of a bride.  In my head I was thinking this was the moment, but no it was just a story. Then he signaled the waitress over, so I am thinking maybe she has the ring, but again all he wanted was the check.  The funny part after that night I decided that it will happen when it does, so I just stopped trying to predict when in my head. That friday night we went to a steakhouse and had dinner.  Then we met up with some friends and hung out for a bit.  After awhile he decided to take me to this park that we often would go to just to sit and talk. I remember we were sitting on the picnic tables just looking up at the sky and talking.  Then he started talking about our relationship and the next thing I knew he is on his knee with the ring out.  At this point, I truly wasn’t expecting it.  Of course I said yes.

{Wedding Wednesday} The Color of Love

Luther Vandross once sang about the Power of Love.  I want to sing the praises of the COLOR OF LOVE—RED!  Okay, it may not be the official color of love, but walk by any gift or greeting card store this month and you may think otherwise.  :)

So, in case you hadn’t heard, RED is my most “FAVORITEST” color EVER!!!  From red lipstick to a red car – you name it, I’ve had it or currently have it in that color.  I guess it was meant to be as I was fortunate enough to be born in the month synonymous with LOVE, aka February.   As a young girl I would wonder why my birthstone wasn’t garnet, and recall trying to MAKE garnet my birthstone!   But, it’s ok—I learned to deal with it and I now combine red AND purple, or better yet, the birthstone color amethyst! Can’t you see it—red and purple! During this month, RED is especially held in high regard as ‘amour’ is celebrated all over the world. Therefore, I’d like to think of February as the month of LOVE and ROYALTY!

I recall being a bridesmaid in a wedding wherein the color scheme was red, purple and metallic gold.  The bridesmaids wore a very rich ruby red velour gown with gorgeous balloon metallic short sleeves and the Maid of Honor  wore a very rich purple gown accented with metallic balloon short sleeves.  The colors blended so very nicely and the guests gave rave reviews!  I will always remember that wedding – very royal, rich and romantic!

So in honor of this month, I wanted to inspire our brides-to-be, or those who are planning that special Valentine Day wedding or pop-the-question event, and any fellow birthday girls or boys.  Be creative and don’t be afraid to combine and experiment with two of the richest colors in the decor of your special day!  Go with red and add a pop of purple or go purple and add a pop of red and you mustn’t forget the silver or gold accents!

So in the Spirit of Love and Royalty have fun using reds and purples from flowers to invitations when planning that special day for the one you love!

Believing in the Power of Love!

{Fashion Inspiration} Grammy Awards Red Carpet Fashion

With fashion and Hollywood events going together like peanut butter and jelly, today’s fashion inspiration is all about the 2013 Grammy Awards!

It’s always exciting to see the trends from our favorite designers grace the red carpet.  This year, the Grammys dazzled us with looks in Pantone’s color of the year, emerald green, in addition to bold prints, and the dynamic duo of black and white.

Lets start with a few of my faves. :)

Hands down, this year’s best dressed of the Grammys goes to the darling Ms. Kelly Rowland in a risqué black Georges Chakra Couture gown. The strategically placed geometric sheer panels gave a little eye candy and the tulle skirt added a bit of sophistication to this stunner.  A perfect number for the girl who loves taking risks!

This season it’s very easy being green and I am swooning over the ladies who stunned us in the color-of-the-moment, emerald. Florence Welch was head to toe in a custom Givenchy whimsical look.  The sequined gown with cone like knots adorning the neckline, shoulders and arms stood out on the carpet.

Solange, a true fashionista, pulled out all the stops with her natural locks, emerald couture gown from Ralph & Russo, and hot pink studded pumps!  Her sister Bey was toned down but on-trend as well with her Osman black & white crepe jumpsuit. This number would be perfect to wear at a cocktail reception instead of the standard LBD.

The lovely Adele graced the carpet with a bold print Valentino. This red applique frock tailored like a dream at the waistline was a refreshing to say the least.  Adele received mixed reviews for her change from the normal LBD’s she rocks, but I say if your confident enough to wear it and look this great, then I’m all for it!

WEDDING DRESS TREND ALERT!

So many of my colleagues in the industry were lighting up the news feed on Twitter and Facebook with their reaction to the Theia Couture ballroom gown worn during a performance by Carrie Underwood. When she first walked out on stage I thought this gown reminded me of a gorgeous number I had seen on the New York Bridal Week 2013 runway back in October.  As country music’s Barbie doll stood still and led lights begin to project fanciful circles, flowers and shapes across the dress, I quickly changed my mind.  With that being said, the verdict is still out of this one.  Some say HOT and some say NOT!!  What are your thoughts on this glowing gown?

Lastly, here are the most talked about looks from the night that I don’t hope to see at a wedding reception anytime soon!
